something to aspire to

I spent last wknd in Chicago at my niece's home w/ her mom and my youngest daughter Melissa. We went to the Art Institute Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art. I enjoyed them both immensely! The one thing that always strikes me when I go to these types of places is the vibrancy of the colors in paintings that were done 100's of years ago. This particular piece just blew me away because for starters the attire she had on was so not what was customary for the time so she must've been someone very important. As I got closer to the piece, the detail was just extraordinary, there's even a brocade type pattern painted in the fabric of her gown. The necklace and broach has amazing detail, each little bead and filigree is so real. The lace of her collar is beautiful. The one thing that disappoints me about this painting is when my daughter snapped the pic of it for me she didn't get the plaque next to it that tells me who she is, when it was done and who did it. So if anyone is up on their art history and recognizes this please fill me in.
